Attorney Robert Mitchell is a proud Marine Corps Veteran who joined the Marine Corps on Veterans Day, during the first Gulf War. Mr. Mitchell served with 1st Intelligence Company’s Interrogation Platoon while on Camp Pendleton, and with Special Operations Training Group while on Okinawa.
After being honorably discharged, Mr. Mitchell studied business at Arkansas State University. While at Arkansas State Mr. Mitchell was nominated to the Honor Society by a professor, nominated as a Truman Scholar by another professor, served as the Secretary for the University’s Society for Human Resources Management, completed an internship with U.S. Senator Tim Hutchinson in Washington, D.C., and worked as a volunteer for two and half years assisting disabled veterans enrolled in the VA’s Vocational Rehabilitation Program. Mr. Mitchell attended Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane. During his second and third years of law school, Mr. Mitchell clerked at the Washington State Attorney General’s Office in Spokane, Washington.
Mr. Mitchell is licensed to practice law in the State of Washington, with offices in Spokane and Vancouver, Washington. He is licensed in Federal District Courts in Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Massachusetts, Virginia, the Western District of Tennessee, and both federal courts in Arkansas.
Mr. Mitchell served as class counsel in a nationwide class action lawsuit filed against United Airlines on behalf of veteran pilots alleging USERRA violations. (Tuten v. United Airlines; 12-cv-1561-WJM-MEH, U.S. District Court, District of Colorado). The case resolved for over $6 million. Mr. Mitchell served as class counsel in another nationwide class action lawsuit filed against American Airlines on behalf of veteran pilots alleging similar USERRA violations. (Allman v. American Airlines, Inc. Pilot Retirement Benefit Program Variable Income Plan et al, 1:14-cv-10138-IT, U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts). That case settled for nearly $6.5 million. Mr. Mitchell also contributed as amicus curiae to a servicemember’s appeal before the Supreme Court of New Mexico. (Phillip G. Ramirez, JR. v. State of New Mexico, et al, Appeal No. 34,613 (August 7, 2014).
Mr. Mitchell is a proud veteran, husband, and father of two. He is an avid fisherman who enjoys spending time with his family, sports, biking, hiking, camping, rafting, and travel.
